This summer before walking out that door, make sure you have a good Spf 40+ facial sunscreen handy. If you’re anything like me, you have a daily skin routine that can make your skin more sensitive to the UVA/UVB rays. The right sunscreen can protect your skin and all the hard work those products are doing underneath.

One of the last steps in reversing and preventing hyperpigmentation is sun protection. I’ve learned this the hard way. Good skin care starts with knowing the biology of your skin and how the active ingredients in products work. If you are using alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), beta hydroxy acids (BHA), retinol, or vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), you can be inadvertently making your skin more sensitive to the sun. Without proper sun protection, you’ll negate any skin benefits you received from the products.

Here are few sunscreens that pass the summer vibe tests by providing adequate sun protection (broad spectrum) and a few that are reef safe if you’ll be hanging out at the beach this summer.
